Game Rules

PRE-GAME

  • Teams may start with a minimum of 4 players during game time.  If less than 4 players, team will be considered Default.  Forfeit will be called if team is late 3 minutes after tip-off.

  • All teams should wear uniform at all times.  A technical foul will be issued to the player not in uniform and penalty - 2 free throw plus possession of the ball will be awarded to the other team.

GAME

  • Two (2) twenty (20) minute halves running time except for the last two (2) minutes of the 2nd half. The clock will stop with each dead ball.

  • Two (2) twenty (20) seconds time out per half.  There will be no carry over of timeout.

OVERTIME

  • In case of a tie after regulation time has expired, there will be a two (2) 3-minute overtime period.

  • If no winner emerges after two (2) overtime periods, the first team to score a point during the 2nd OT periods will be the winner (sudden death rule).

  • One time out allowed per OT, no carry over of timeouts.

FOULS / SUBSTITUTIONS

  • A seventh team foul places the opposing team in a bonus free-throw (1 on 1) situation.

  • A 10th team foul places the opposing team in a bonus 2 free throw , penalty situation.

  • A player is disqualified or "fouls out" after committing five (5) personal fouls.

  • Unlimited substitutions are allowed during dead-ball situations (fouls, timeouts, violations, and after made baskets in the final two minutes).

  • Coaches must signal the scorer’s table and wait for the referee’s acknowledgment before substitutes enter.

  • Free throws: Substitutions may not replace the designated shooter and are allowed only after the final free throw.

  • Jump balls: Substitutes may not replace designated jumpers until the next dead-ball opportunity.

  • Injuries: Injured players must be replaced immediately and may not return until the next legal substitution opportunity. If the injured player is the free-throw shooter, the coach selects a replacement from players on the court.

  • All substitutions must occur before the ball becomes live; illegal subs may result in a delay-of-game or technical foul.

TECHNICAL FOULS

  • Unsportsmanlike conduct: arguing with officials, taunting opponents, disrespectful gestures

  • Delay of game: interfering with the ball after a made basket, throwing the ball away

  • Administrative issues: calling too many timeouts, having too many players on the court

  • Illegal Actions: Touching the ball when not in play, kicking the ball or illegal substitutions

PENALTIES AND EJECTIONS

  • Excess Timeout:  A technical foul is assessed if a team requests a timeout when they have none left.

  • Advancing the Ball: During the final two (2) minutes of the second half or overtime, a team in possession may advance the ball to half-court following a charged timeout.

  • Penalty:  One free throw awarded to the opposing team (any player can shoot) and position of the ball.

  • Ejection: A player or coach is automatically ejected after receiving two (2) technical fouls in one game

  • Double Technical: If both teams commit technical simultaneously (e.g. a verbal altercation), they are recorded but cancel each other out, with no free throws of ejection unless one party's action was severe.
